Genius of Nature Mixed Metal Wedding Bands

10th May 2021

At Dejan Studio Jewelry, we use old-fashioned techniques like our inlay techniques, etching, and repoussé, combined with using modern technology. We can control the whole design process because we are making the rings in house, that means we can adjust the design up to the end. We aim to create jewelry that is pleasant to wear, with an emphasis on customer service. That means we prefer making our rings comfort fit and we size rings quickly and offer in store cleaning. We also specialize in using texture in our designs and mixed metal techniques.

The women’s bands above are made with inlay technique and scattered diamonds. For metals, we prefer to use stronger materials, for example palladium, which is harder than gold and similar to platinum. Other benefits of palladium & platinum are that they are hypoallergenic, meaning nobody is allergic to them, and they work nicely with patina. In comparison with palladium, platinum is a brighter and heavier metal. The center ring is in 18K yellow gold and platinum with 22K gold inlay. For our white gold, we use an alloy that is also strong. When we use 14K white gold, that means it is slightly more white and very durable. For yellow gold, we like to use 18K yellow gold because it is the best option to get a rich yellow color, this means for mixed metals, there is better contrast.

In men’s wedding rings, we like to use stones like an accent to compliment the design as well, not like a focal point. For men who like to have the option to wear different colored watches and cufflinks depending on the day, it is nice to have a mixture of different colors of metals to coordinate with. Choosing a metal also depends on what looks nice with your complexion. That means it is a good idea to try some different rings on in the studio and to customize something with your favorite color or metal mixture.

Mixed metals rings can be customized by colors, widths, and textures. In the middle, blackener is used in combination with rose gold texture to give a more organic feeling. More examples of our past designs for men are shown below.

Another interesting mixed metal technique used in our designs is Mokume Gane, an ancient Japanese technique created by layering metals. Examples of rings using this technique from the Genius of Nature Collection and custom designs are featured below.
